5″ Winston Engineering BR Standard Class 7 Britannia £5000 ono

This 5″ gauge loco has been constructed from the Winston Engineering kit, the builder who was already an experienced model engineer and had a number of successful 5″ locos was very disappointed and commenced reengineering the model in line with the James Perrier design then available from Norman Spinks (now Blackgates) as can be seen much work has been competed to a high standard and largely all that remains is the final assembly.

Over 200 unopened Winston components are included (some not used and replaced such as valves and pistons) so we are convinced this is complete and a large number of upgraded parts from Doug Hewson are included, the Winston instruction and set of Perrier drawings.

Sadly ill heath overtook the completion of the loco but much good work has been completed so the heavy work has been already done.

Inspection is welcome here at Quarry Bank by Appointment.

5″ Gauge GWR 51xx Designed and Built by Trevor Shortland for A J Reeves £ Sold.

We have know of this superb locomotive for over 40 years and with the passing of its 3rd owner a rare opportunity has become available to acquire one of the the most superb GWR loco designs for 5@” gauge, this is the designers own locomotive developed from the 1960’s until made available by A J Reeves in the early 70’s this example is Trevor Shortland’s own work and included many annotated drawings, a number of his original pencil on tracing paper drawings and numerous parts from his development work including a fully fabricated cylinder block, 3 spare cylinder castings (not currently available from Reeves) and spare wheel castings.

The loco is largely mechanically complete and the boiler has signs that it has been hydraulic tested, leaving only plate work, unfortunately due to family circumstances Trevor left model engineering and sold his workshop and unfinished projects to Ted Newbery a local model engineer and machine tool dealer.

As can be seen this locomotive will make a fantastic example once complete, as well as carrying the history of its design development that heralded the start of super detailed model steam locomotive design.
